It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Mark R. Leehan, of Sterling, VA. Mark passed away on Thursday, November 22nd, 2018 after a short, but courageous battle with amyloidosis. In the days leading up to his passing he was surrounded by his friends and family for whom he so deeply loved.
Mark was born on September 8th, 1961 in New Britain, CT. He spent his early years growing up in NY, VA, and VT, before attending college at Eastern New Mexico University from 1980-1984. Mark was a proud member of the Zeta Sigma chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity. He graduated from ENMU with a degree in Management Information Systems and Accounting. It was also there that Mark was accepted into the ROTC program and upon graduation, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Lieutenant Leehan honorably served as an artillery officer in the 2nd Infantry Division and 1st Cavalry Division from 1984-1988. It was while stationed in Korea, that Mark met his wife, Andrea. After some time, the two settled and raised their family in Sterling, VA and have remained there since 1996.
Anyone that had the privilege of knowing Mark knew that he lived his life full of passion, but most importantly devotion. He was utterly devoted to his family and they always came first. His wife Andrea was his very best friend and his children brought him an immense amount of joy and gave purpose to his life. Mark was unquestionably selfless in his commitment to those he knew and loved, and never missed an opportunity to be somewhere his family or friends needed him. He had so many passions throughout his life to include: swimming, cycling, coaching basketball, traveling, football, music, and landscaping. In the short amount of time that Mark spent on this earth, he truly lived his life to the fullest, grasping every opportunity as it came while enjoying the life he made for himself.
Mark is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Andrea Leehan; son, Joshua Leehan; daughter, Elisa Leehan; siblings, Brad Leehan, sister, Randi Leehan, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and extended family all across the country.
A celebration of Mark’s life will take place on Saturday, January 12, 2019, beginning at 1:00pm with a tribute beginning at 1:30pm. Location: Cascades Overlook EC, 21453 Epicerie Plaza, Sterling, VA 20164.
