Robert John Pichtel, 72, of Chantilly, VA peacefully passed away on March 21, 2022 with his family by his side.
He was born on December 9, 1949 in Manhattan, NY to Stanley Pichtel and Rose Andrewjack. He moved to Staten Island where he graduated from the elite technical program at McKee High School in 1967. Married on June 10, 1972 to Marilyn Olsen, they shared a life of nearly 50 years together.
Robert spent more than 30 years working for Xerox Corporation where he got to work at the World Trade Center. He also fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a businessowner by running Iselin Auto Parts for several years. He inherited his mother’s mechanical skills and spent his time tinkering, remodeling homes, rebuilding cars, and fixing things. He loved cars, being the family handyman, driving along the shore, trading stocks, candy, and birds.
His biggest joy in life was being “Pa” to his four grandchildren. He moved from Rumson, NJ to Chantilly, VA to be near them in his retirement. He loved sharing his witty humor, funny stories, and words of wisdom with them. He enjoyed taking them to watch the planes, to see the wildlife at local nature parks, and even a meteor shower where they witnessed dozens of shooting stars. His name is engraved at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center as it was one of his favorite places to take his grandchildren.
In addition to Marilyn, he is survived by his brothers, John Pichtel (Theresa) and Alan Pichtel; his sister, Kathleen Coke-Petrone (Ed); his son, Robert John Pichtel Jr. (Holly); nephew, Yosef Pichtel; nieces, Vanessa Coke Cohen (Adam), Candice Coke, and Leah Pichtel; and four grandchildren, Adam, Monica, June, and Ruby Pichtel.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
