Obituary of Jeffrey Lynn Taylor

Jeffrey Lynn Taylor, son of Clifford and Judith (Driscoll) Taylor of Portsmouth, NH, passed away in his sleep in Alexandria, Virginia after a brief illness at the age of 59. 

Jeff was born in Portsmouth, N.H. April 24,1962, and attended the Mary C. Dondero Elementary School, Portsmouth Junior High School and Portsmouth Senior High School where he graduated with the class of 1980.  During those years, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 964 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  He was also a member of the nationally acclaimed Clipper Marching Brass, playing the trumpet for 4 years.  Jeff attended Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.  He was active in the campus church as a lector, worked weekends at radio station WFTQ, and played rugby for a city team.  After graduation, Jeff went to Washington D.C. and began a 35-year career in government relations, lobbying, public affairs and political consulting.  For the better part of 10 years, he traveled all over the country running congressional campaigns.  Jeff loved meeting new people, ”never met a stranger”, and made many friends along the way.  He came back to N.H. to help get then Vice President George Bush elected President.  After the election, he went to work on The Inauguration Committee and then to work for the administration in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in D.C. 

Jeff held many positions of leadership in the National Republican Committee including Director of Congressional Affairs for the NRCC.  In 1993, he helped establish the Frontiers of Freedom, a 501 (c)(3) public policy think tank with Senator Malcom Wallop of Wyoming. While at Frontiers, Jeff took a leave of absence and signed on as Senior Campaign Advisor to the Steve Forbes for President campaign. 

Jeff was the Chief of Staff for U.S. Congressman David MacIntosh.  During this time, he was heavily involved with the House Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, which had policy oversight of all regulatory agencies in the executive branch.  In this role, Jeff was instrumental in the establishment of the Republican Study Committee, a caucus of the conservative members the House Republican Conference. Jeff was the Congressman’s primary liaison to the GOP House Leadership, attending weekly House Leadership meetings chaired by Speakers Newt Gingrich and Dennis Hastert.

Most recently, Jeff was the managing partner of two firms, Falcontree Commodities LLC and USGRI LLC which provided consulting, lobbying and public affairs services. 

Jeff was a guest commenter on matters involving government relations, public policy and political campaigns for news outlets such as ABC News, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, CBN, and C-Span and on several national talk radio programs including the BBC.

Besides his parents, Jeff is survived by his wife Julie (Mulford) Taylor and his daughter Morgan of Falls Church, VA, his brother Jay Taylor and his wife Mary-Jane (Traggis) Taylor of Rochester, N.H., niece Kaitlin Taylor and nephew Justin Taylor both of Hooksett, N.H.  Memorial plans in Washington D.C. and Portsmouth, NH will be announced at a later date.  Memorial donations may be sent to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O.
