Obituary of Laura Ann Miller

Laura Ann Weeks Miller of Sterling, VA passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, March 6, 2022 at Poet’s Walk memory care residence in Leesburg. She was 81.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran in Bethesda, MD at 11:00 am on April 8, 2022.

Laura was born in Charleston, WV on April 14, 1940 to William Trent Weeks and Betty Ann Ward Weeks. She was the first of three girls that grew up in the beautiful mountain town of Floyd, VA where her father owned a small grocery and butcher shop. Laura graduated from Floyd High School in 1958. She attended Roanoke College and paused her education to marry her first husband, Gerald Miller, in December 1959. They moved to Richmond, VA in 1965 when Gerald was called to become a Methodist Minister. While raising 4 children Laura re-entered college and went on to become a registered nurse, befitting her kind and nurturing spirit. Her 26-year marriage ended in divorce in 1986.

Laura had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir wherever she attended church. That’s how she met and fell in love with music director Maestro Dingwall Fleary, whom she married in 2003. They lived happily in Sterling, VA.

Laura Miller is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Dingwall Fleary, her sons Gerald (Jay) Miller, Jr., Harold Miller (Laurel) and Mark Miller; and daughter Terese Miller; her 7 grandchildren (Samantha, Kyle, Claudia, Charlie, Kirby Miller, Bauer and Blake Burkart); her sisters Catherine Kelley (James) and Martha Boswell (Charlie); 3 nephews and 1 niece. Laura is preceded in death by her parents William Trent Weeks and Betty Ann Ward; and her ex-husband Rev. Dr. Gerald Miller, Sr.

Laura loved the annual beach trips with her family. She enjoyed painting, crafts, singing, dancing and theater. She was a bright light and strong, loving spirit to her family and all who knew her.  We will miss her sweet smile, warm hugs and witty humor.

Laura’s family would greatly appreciate donations to either of these charities in her honor:
