Eleanor Margaret Hall Foley, 97, moved to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in Culpeper, VA.
The daughter of Georgia farmers, James and Frances Hall, Eleanor grew up in a log home her father built during the depression. After her high school graduation, she worked for 3 years for the telephone company in Atlanta before embarking on her nursing career in 1944. She attended Saint Joseph Nursing School of Atlanta, paid by the US Army. World War II ended before she completed her education so she moved to Greenville, SC and worked at St. Francis Hospital.
In 1953, Eleanor saw an ad on the television for the Army Nurse Corp. She joined and after basic training in St. Antonio, TX, she served at Ft. Belvoir, VA and Heidelberg, Germany. While stationed in Germany, Eleanor got the opportunity to travel around Europe. She would often talk about touring Paris and Italy. After her tour in the Army, she worked at Army hospitals around the country - including Walter Reed in Washington, DC; Ft. Riley, Kansas; Sioux St. Marie, Michigan; Ft. Dix, New Jersey and Ft. Lewis, Washington.
She was married to Master Sergeant, Richard Foley. When Richard retired, they settled in Clovis, California where they lived for many years enjoying the warm weather, the backyard pool and their beloved cat, Georgia.
After Richard’s death, Eleanor moved back to Greenville, South Carolina to be close to old friends. In 2000, she moved to Sun City Center, Florida to be close to her sister, Frances. Her last 7 years were spent in Culpeper with her nephew, Michael and his wife, Kathy.
Eleanor loved traveling, shopping, candy, and to be around family. She was always up for an adventure. She was a member of the Catholic church.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Foley; sister, Frances Hall Bryan; and nephew, William C. Bryan. She is survived by nephew, Michael Garrett (Kathy); niece, Susan Fimiani (Bob) and many grandnephews, grandnieces and their children.
