Thomas Sandlin Jr.

Obituary of Thomas Rudy Sandlin Jr.

Thomas R. Sandlin, Jr., (Tom), of Vienna, VA was 59 years old when he passed away on February 3, 2022.

Tom was born in Birmingham, AL to Pat Ward and Rudy Sandlin on July 2, 1962. He went to Mortimer Jordan High School and graduated in 1980.  He went on to earn a BS from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and an MBA from Vanderbilt University in 1989. From an early age, Tom worked in his family’s business until he graduated from college.  After college, Tom moved to the DC area and started his career with the Trammell Crow company.  He was a commercial real estate broker for the last 33 years, including working for Roger Staubach, creating his own company, and finally working with Avison Young.

Tom is survived by his wife, Allison, of 38 years; his 3 children-Kyle Sandlin, Alexandra Sandlin, Grant Sandlin and daughter-in-law, Sydney Sandlin; his mother, Pat Ward; his cousin, Kenneth Cheatwood, who was like his brother; his parents-in-law, Joyce and Doug Carlisle; his sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Elmo Belcher; his two nieces Katie and Lindsay and their families; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Sandlin.  Tom was very blessed to have friends in Alabama, Virginia, and many other places. Even though he lived in Virginia for over 33 years, his roots are still very deep in Alabama and that’s where he’ll be buried.
