It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Frederick Luebs who died peacefully on January 10, 2022 at Reston Hospital in Reston, Virginia. Donald lived by his own set of rules, had a passion for travel, boating and sailing, and most of all loved his family.
Donald was born in Michigan on January 26, 1935. He grew up in Detroit with his parents, Harry Frederick Luebs and Donna Hart Luebs, and his younger sisters Janell Robertson and Georgia Hart. He graduated from Cooley High School in 1953 and went on to attend Michigan State University for his undergraduate degree on a full scholarship from Ford Motor Company where his father was employed. He graduated with honors and went on to earn a master’s degree from Michigan State in June of 1959. On November 26, 1960, Donald married the love of his life, Gail Willenbrok. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1961 and was activated into the Air Force later that year during the Berlin Crisis where he served as an Airman 1st Class. After his military service, Donald went on to enjoy a career in the residential housing industry, spending the majority of his employment with the National Association of Home Builders. For most of their married life, Donald and Gail lived in a beautiful home on a wooded lot in the southern tip of Reston where they raised three children.
