Obituary of Margaret Sutherland Warren

Margaret Sutherland Taylor Warren, 99, passed away at The Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester, V.A., on January 9, 2022.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Clarke Stinson Sutherland and Katharine White Sutherland.

The oldest of three, she was born five minutes before her identical twin sister, Eleanore, followed by her brother, Fred, three years later. Moving to Watchung, N.J., at age 2, she was a resident of Evergreen Lane for over eighty years. Here she enjoyed an adventurous childhood with her siblings and Blackadar cousins, who lived next door. Graduating from the BouvĂ©-Boston School of Physical Education at Tufts University in 1944, she had a long career as a physical therapist, including serving during WWII, until she retired at age 69.

On November 10, 1945, she married Roy H. Taylor, Jr. (1919-1988), with whom she had three children. She is remembered for her creative endeavors such as her floral arrangements, sewing skills, and making holidays special. Always a helpful soul, she took in and cared for several family members as their health declined. A long-time member of the Wilson Memorial Church, she was an integral part of the church for over 60 years.

After the death of her first husband, she married Clifford Warren (1913-2007), with whom she enjoyed traveling the world in her senior years. At home in New Jersey, she was an avid gardener, a passionate birdwatcher, and always cultivated a beautiful home.

She is survived by her 3 children: Sue Taylor Leitch, Gwen Ellen Taylor, and Roy H. Taylor III, daughter-in-law Sue Ann; 6 grandchildren: Heather, Andrew, Laurel, Michael, Katharine, and Jessica; and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care shown over the past six years by the staff of The Village at Orchard Ridge. They would also like to thank the staff of Blue Ridge Hospice for their kindness over the past six months.
