Obituary of Barbara Beth Zittrer

Barbara Beth Zittrer of Winchester, VA, passed away peacefully, at the age of 78, on November 28, 2021, at Blue Ridge Hospice of Winchester.


She was the daughter of the late Alexander Y. Mutch and Martha Kaether Mutch of Manassas, Virginia.


Survivors include sisters Waneta M. Mutch of Manassas and Karen R. Mutch of The Hague, Netherlands.


She studied music education at the University of Miami, pre med/ music at Gustavus Adolphus College and wound up with a BS in Education from George Mason University, graduating with highest distinction.


She was also an artist , self taught, holding exhibitions over the years, in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands. She described her style as “ Naive with emphasis on form and color, as well as control. The effect is magical”


She worked as an educator for years before taking on a job as general manager for the premier vintage guitar storefront at the time in the Washington Area, Southworth Guitars. She later opened her own shop, Barbara’s Guitars in Adams Morgan which was a well liked and popular shop, run with an artistic flair.


By the early 2000’s she opted for a change of scenery and moved out to Winchester Virginia to enjoy country living, in a rustic circa 1900 farm house. She worked her way through several positions at FEMA, earning high ratings and awards for service. She had worked most recently as an an Emergency Management Specialist.


She loved all of God’s creatures, and put forth the effort to rescue and care for them.
