Albert “Bert” Vincent Farrell was the 3rd of 7 children born to parents Margaret C Reno Farrell and William (Buddy) A Farrell in New York City, February 18, 1940.
On October 15, 1966 he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Niven Farrell.
On January 6, 1968, Bert and Barbara’s only child, Thomas “Tommy” Farrell was born.
Bert was devoted to Barbara during their 52 years of marriage, until they were parted by her death on December 10, 2018.
Bert worked for many years at Shears Pharmacy with his cousin and close friend, Jack McKenna. Following his time at Shears, he enjoyed transporting cars for auction and made a profession of it for many years, making deliveries and chauffeuring dignitaries in Manhattan. He also spent a short time driving a school bus.
He shared his nostalgic stories humorously (albeit sarcastically) with those who were privileged to share his space, mind and, most importantly, heart. If you were in his heart, you felt and knew it.
As much as he wasn’t an “animal” person, he spoke of Alice the family Saint Bernard, Z their “killer rabbit”, and the many cats they had over the years: “Shitty Kitty”, Noodles, Anchovy, Brother and Pussy McCatty. He was a softy, although he hid that well.
He had a passion for wood-working and was a very talented craftsman with a beautiful woodshop stocked with all of his favorite wood-working tools.
At the time of his death on October 2, 2021, he was living with his sister Pat, with whom he enjoyed verbally sparring over political and social situations.
He is survived by his son, Tommy Farrell, his grandson Christopher Farrell, his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Barbara Farrell, sisters Pat Hall and Peggy Knight, his brother-in-law, Wayne Knight, his life-long friend and brother-in-law Gus Drellos as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Margaret and Buddy, his brothers Patrick and William (Billy) and his sister Dorothy (Dot) Milius, brother in-law Edward Milius, and brother-in-law, Chuck Hall.
Donations may be made to Susan G. Komen® in honor of his wife Barbara, Wounded Warrior Project® , the American Lung Association, or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®.
Burial will be at Queen of All Saints Cemetery, Central Islip, NY, on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10 a.m.
