On behalf of the Bertagni children- Sue, Monsignor Ted, Nancy, Steve, Tina & Jody, we send our deepest condolences. We ( especially us older 3), remember both of your parents as we were growing up. Mom ( Mary Ellen Schmitz Bertagni) always spoke highly of her cousin Paul & wife Shirley. May they all be celebrating together again!
You and your family are in our though & prayers.

Dear Kanka Family,
I am Marie Angele, niece of Katherine and Les Hightower. I wish to extend my prayers and sympathy to you at the passing of your beloved mother. My Aunt Kathy passed away on April 6 after a fall in her home in February. I have found many cards, notes, and wedding programs from your parents and family among her things that attest to their deep friendships. I also remember many stories shared at family gatherings about your parents and your family. From my viewpoint, they were wonderful friends. I trust that they are now together in heaven, reunited in faith and friendship. God bless all of you and may your mom and dad Rest In Peace.
Blessings,
Sr. Marie Angele, RSM

Terry, Shari and Bobbi... we are saddened with the news of Shirley's passing...
She, and your dad, Paul, were always a wonderful presence in our extended family gatherings.
I remember the excitement and celebrations when Shirley and Paul got married in 1952... it was a BIG FUN FAMILY celebration!!!
Over the years and decades, Shirley was always able to bring a certain spark of welcome, humor, love and inclusiveness to any and all who happened to be present....
As Paul's god-daughter, I felt a certain special connection to Shirley and LOVED when I knew that she'd be present for whatever family gathering was to take place.
Thank you, Shirley, for being YOU, bringing yourself fully and alive to any and all, and loving us unconditionally.
I will miss you very much, and will treasure the gift of YOU always in my life.
May you celebrate with Paul in eternal happiness and love....
and
I'm sure that wherever and whenever your spirit lights.... there will be laughter, love, and inclusiveness.
Love you all and sending healing prayers to you all,
Cathy and Richard Pedersen

Shirley - she was one of the most kindness persons I recall while growing up. If a person was not smiling, within minutes she could turn a frown in to a smile. When she attended different functions, she and Paul always visited with everyone and yes she even the young ones and she gave everyone a bad time in a good way, she had that knack. So maybe that is where I too got the knack and why I too give everyone a bad time in a good way, for life is too short to be anything less.
With the passing of your mom and dad back sometime, it is up to you all to carry on the traditions as well as your parents had in this order when dealing with with LIFE - Faith Family Friends and Work in that order. For without Faith one has no consoler, without family one maybe lost and in time of need the ability to reach out - In Friends when family is not there one needs to reach out to your good friends for support - Lastly Work one needs for without work one cannot survive .
With that prayers for all that Shirley may be sitting at the table of Plenty next to Our Lord this evening. Prayers to those who remain on earth for they have the strength to endure life in general. So Smile remember all the fun times and share memories with all.

Hi Christine. I remember it was at a funeral that you and I got to know each other. Nana forced me to go up to the open casket of whomever it was (probably why I really don't like to view the dead). Anyway, I remember making friends with you that day. Funny how sad events can bring joy. :) HUGS.
