On July 5, 2021, Nell Ann Luby peacefully passed away while surrounded by family and friends. Beloved mother of Michael Paul Luby, David Francis Luby and his wife April, and Nell Caroline (“Carrie”) Messing and her husband Lew; loving grandmother of 5; cherished sister of Barry Newell and his wife Bernadette, and Linda Jones; and also survived by the father of her children, Bernard Luby and his wife Barbara. Nell was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Manning.
Nell loved life, and cared deeply for others she knew and loved. Her passion for life helped her excel with the American Red Cross of Hawaii, where, in 1988, Nell was awarded the prestigious Tiffany Award as the outstanding employee from all the Hawaiian Islands. The award is given to the person who most aptly represents their mission statement, “… to improve the quality of life… enhance self-reliance and concern for others… and to help people avoid, prepare for and cope with emergencies.” Nell later retired from the University of Central Florida as a Director in Human Resources. Following her wishes, a close family gathering to celebrate her life will take place in the near future. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the American Red Cross of Hawaii, 4155 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96816, (or online at https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/) using email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
