Carol Jane Pattersen Coldren, 91, passed away on March 7th in Annandale, Virginia. Carol was born February 11, 1930, to Loy and Mabel Pattersen of New Castle, Pennsylvania. She married Clarke Lincoln Coldren of Uniontown, Pennsylvania in 1949. A homemaker, she raised four daughters while living in California, the Netherlands, Houston, and Westport, Connecticut. The family returned to Houston in 1971 where she lived until 2017 when she moved to Northern Virginia to be nearer family members. She was living with her daughter, Anne, and her husband Bill, during the Covid pandemic.
Carol was an active volunteer leading Girl Scout troops, fundraising for the United Way, dressing up as a life-size Raggedy Ann doll to cheer up people who were ill, and driving cancer patients to treatment in Houston, and more. She was also an active member of the Presbyterian or Congregationalist church wherever she lived.
Carol held a Bachelor of Library Science degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Library Science degree from Sam Houston State University.
She loved to travel and was an avid photographer of landscapes and the family. She loved the beach and the mountains, especially the Grand Tetons.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sharon Louise Coldren (husband Philip Strenger), Anne Carol Coldren Gross (husband William Gross), Kathryn Alice “Kay” Coldren Hawkins, and Eleanor Jane Coldren Bissell (husband Douglas Bissell) and 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
