Mrs. Jayalakshmi Venkataraman (Jaya, “Amma,” and “Paati”), 72, of South Riding, VA passed away on September 28th after a fearless fight with a long illness. Her unwavering devotion to family and friends, and her firm belief in God gave her strength to seek a better place near the Lotus feet of God.
Paati was born to the late Mr. Gurumoorthy Krishnan and Mrs. Chellam Krishnan in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu on April 2, 1948. She was blessed with a large and supportive family. She married Mr. Venkataraman Ramanathan, “Thatha,” in 1968, and together they spent most of their lives in Baroda, Gujarat raising two daughters. With discipline, diligence, and humility, Paati taught them to be lifelong learners, educators, and devoted caretakers.
Paati herself was a caretaker at heart. She was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer our most poorly-timed questions or share pearls of her wisdom. She led with the wisdom that no ego or mistake is impenetrable to a well-intentioned apology and that our biggest strengths are our discipline, perseverance, and dedication to our families. She is so dearly missed by her loved ones, who take comfort in the fact that she is at peace and at home once again with her loved ones who passed before her.
Paati is survived by her daughters, Bharathi Raju (s/o Raju Krishnan) and Bhanumathi Srikant (s/o Srikant Ramasubramanian); her grandchildren Priya and Priyanka Raju; her sisters, Sita Krishnan, Indra Vaidhyanathan, Kala Chandrashekar Sarma, and Ganga Samuel; and her brother Shankar Krishnan. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Mr. Venkataraman Ramanathan; her parents; and her brothers, Ravi and Gopal Krishnan.
Final rites will be performed at Direct Cremation Services of VA at 2 pm on October 1st, 2020.
