Obituary of Lydia Miller

Lydia Genevieve Miller (née Ellis) of Centreville, VA passed away on January 12, 2019 in Fairfax, VA.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Ox Hill Baptist Church, 4101 Elmwood Street, Chantilly, VA on Saturday, March 9th from 1pm to 3pm.

 

Lydia was born in Leesburg, VA to Tom & Genevieve Ellis on November 18, 1947. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1966 and from the Winchester Memorial Hospital’s Radiologic Technician Program in 1968. Lydia married Richard R. Miller in 1969 and raised three children whom she treasured. Lydia began her school career as a Cafeteria Hostess in the Fairfax County School System in 1989. In 1997 she became an Instructional Assistant for Special Education at Centre Ridge Elementary School (Fairfax County) and found her true calling; she retired in 2014. She is remembered by her colleagues as a sweet and loving person who always had time for others.

 

Lydia was known for her warm smile, her kindness and friendliness, her zest for life, her creativity, her inclusiveness of others and her generosity.  She was an accomplished artist and an excellent cook. She enjoyed reading, traveling, live music, and history. Lydia was the editor  and writer of the community newsletter ‘The Meadowlark’ for nearly 30 years. Neighbors referred to her as ‘the heart of the neighborhood.’ Family was the heart of Lydia’s life.

 

Lydia is survived by her beloved husband Richard R. Miller and her son Richard R. Miller II, both of Centreville VA; her daughter Eve Miller and son-in-law John Baker of Philadelphia PA; her son Andrew Miller, daughter-in-law Tracy Miller and grandchildren Stella and Zachary Miller of Erdenheim PA; her siblings Karen Ellis of Pensacola FL, Susan Johnson of Bealeton VA, John Ellis of Adie VA, Brenda Hamilton of Smith Mountain Lake VA, David Ellis of Radford VA and Joanna Ellis of Richmond, VA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Tom & Genevieve Ellis and brother, Tom Ellis II.
