Randall Gary Vick of Fairfax, Virginia died peacefully at his home on December 30, 2018 following a long battle with cancer. He was 88.
Randall was born in Cresco, Iowa and grew up in Waterloo, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1949. A Korean War Veteran, Randall was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1950-52. Following his military service he earned a B.A. degree from Coe College in 1956 and also an M.B.A. degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1968.
Randall had a successful career as a railroad executive with the Rock Island Railroad in Chicago and Southern Railroad in Atlanta and Washington, DC. Beginning in 1975, he enjoyed a 20-year career as an economist with the World Bank in Washington, DC. During this time Randall also served as an adjunct professor at American University and also the University of Virginia Extension Campus.
Randall was very active in the National Association of Purchasing Managers and also served as President of the Mantua Homeowners Association. An avid and skilled golfer, Randall enjoyed time with friends on the golf course, and achieved several “hole-in-ones.”
Randall is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol, his son Stephen and daughter-in-law Libby, and his two granddaughters, Lauren and Courtney; and half-sister, Linda. Randall was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and two brothers.
A military funeral will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be determined.
