It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother; Margot Victoria McGrath (Vikki) on November 15, 2019 at the age of 77.
The family will host a celebration of her life on December 15th at 1:00pm at the Penderbrook Community Clubhouse located at 3704 Golf Trail Lane Fairfax VA 22033.
Vikki was born in Stillwater Minnesota on June 21, 1942 to Grace Newman and Robert Shinn. As a military family daughter she also lived in Vienna Austria, Washington DC, Governors Island, NY, and Heidelberg, Germany during her youth. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington DC in 1960.
Vikki worked at several jobs throughout her life, but proudly managed the dental office of Dr. Louis LaVecchia in Arlington Virginia until she retired in 2008 after more than 27 years there.
Vikki married Charles McGrath and together they had three children: James, Teresa, and Grace. The family spent many summers in Thousand Island Park New York enjoying time together by the St. Lawrence River. Her ashes will be spread in the river in the upcoming summer (2020).
Vikki enjoyed making jewelry when she was able and playing card games. She will be remembered for her warm smile, infectious laugh, and giving spirit.
Vikki is survived by her brother Robert V. Shinn Jr , her sister Ruth Sugeno, many nieces and nephews, her son Jim and his wife Erika, her daughter Terri and her partner Michael Davis, her daughter Grace and her partner Chuck Armour, her grandson Kyle McGrath and his partner Katelyn Wilder along with their children Jade and Ivy, and her granddaughter Erin McGrath.
Vikki is preceded in death by her ex husband Charlie McGrath, her parents, brothers Scott and John Shinn, and her sister Libby Maffre.
Vikki’s children would like to thank Erika, Erin, and Chuck, as well as Amanda and Faith from Captial Caring hospice for their tremendous support over the last few months.
