Thomas Patrick Gaine

T. Patrick (Packy) Gaine

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, Packy passed away peacefully at his home in Waterford Virginia, 4 weeks after the distressing loss of his only brother Jack. He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years Marybeth and his daughter, Brigid Gaine Dutcher and son-in-law, Derek Dutcher. He is also survived by his sisters Sr. Virginia Gaine and Maureen McGowan, 23 nieces and nephews, plus his two first cousins Steven and Paddy in Ireland.

Packy is preceded in death by his infant son, Sean, his parents John and Elizabeth from Kenmare County Kerry Ireland, his brother Jack, and sisters Margaret, Betty Keegan, Joan Hutchison and Patsy McGovern.

He was born August 2nd 1944 in Bradley Beach New Jersey, the baby of eight children. He was raised in Chevy Chase Maryland and graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School, and attended Duquesne University which was interrupted by his service in the US Army National guard where he served as an MP. Packy was very interested in the futures and commodities market and spent several years as a commodity broker. But he was mostly an entrepreneur; at times in the computer world, restaurant business, renovation of houses, landscaping and in numerous other activities. Like his father he was good at plumbing, carpentry, electrical work and mechanics. Packy loved fishing and cooking. He was a fantastic chef and everyone especially loved his potato soup.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Purcellville Virginia. A celebration of life will follow. A private family burial will follow later where he will join his son Sean at the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Bluemont Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
