Richard (Dick) Felix Hill, 86, of Boyce, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020.
Dick was born in Ashaway, Rhode Island, to George Thomas and Mary Alice Hill on September 30, 1933.
He was a loving husband to wife Muriel for 65 years and a wonderful father to his four children. He was devoted to his parents; family was very important to him and he worked hard to keep even extended family close.
He earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He later earned a Doctorate in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Wisconsin. His job experiences were many, starting with being a professor at the University of Rhode Island. He spent many years working for the Federal Power Commission, Engineering Society Commission on Energy (ESCOE) and other engineering companies. He returned to his love of academia as Dean of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
He enjoyed all levels of wood working, from crafting fine furniture to building entire houses, including the home that he and his wife retired in.
He was instrumental in raising funds for the construction of the Bonnie’s Heart Baby Home, built in memory of his oldest daughter. This is a home for babies to toddlers at the Rehoboth Childrens Home in the Philippines.
He was most recently a member and deacon of Berryville Baptist Church, but was very active in other churches throughout his life.
Dick is survived by his wife Muriel, daughter Nancy Hall and her husband Roy, daughter Betty Hill, son Bob Hill and his wife Sharron, son-in-law Mike Burgard, sisters Phyllis Wolff, Margery Hill, and Beverly Zbyrowski plus 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Bonnie Burgard, sister Beatrice Tourtellotte and brother George Hill.
