Doctor Shixiong Sun was a loving husband and father who passed away on December 23, 2021, at 1:40 PM at his home in Chantilly, Virginia at the age of 74 after courageously battling cancer for three years. In his long battle with cancer, he showed himself to be resilient, persistent, courageous, and just a really tough guy. He had a life-long passion for science, medicine, and music. In his life, he accomplished much: he taught numerous students, treated countless patients, and touched many lives.\nShixiong Sun was born in Nanjing, China, the eldest son of Wanquan Sun and Guangbi Tian, brother of Shiwei Sun and Shiying Sun. Growing up during the Cultural Revolution, he was sent to the countryside to work as farm labor like many of his peers. He attended Nanjing Normal University afterwards and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. After graduation, he stayed on as faculty for the next eight years where he taught the dialectics of nature. He published three books during this time, including "Time and Space," "Methodology of Scientific Research," and "Dialectics of Nature." These books are now integral in parts of the college curriculum. Shixiong found joy in helping people, especially in mentoring and guiding them toward their careers.\nIn 1989, he went to Cambridge University, United Kingdom, as a visiting scholar, and later to Indiana University, United States. Shixiong was always interested in traditional Chinese medicine. While in Indiana, he befriended a local Chiropractor and became fascinated by this unique form of alternative medicine used to treat and prevent mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system. He then attended Sherman College of Chiropractic and later opened Chiropractic and Chinese Alternative Care Center in Fairfax, Virginia. He became a well-known Chiropractor in the area and was well respected and loved by his patients.\nShixiong has a deep love for singing. He has participated in many vocal group activities. He eventually established a solo vocalist group, currently known as the Great Washington DC Chinese Solo Singers, in 2009, to allow people with common interests to have an opportunity to share their love of vocal performance.\nAlthough Shixiong has already left this world, he will be remembered in the hearts of those he loved and by the many lives he has touched. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, brother, sister, and many friends.\nA private graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 2 PM, Stonewall Memorial Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA 20109.
