Janey Junior Hunter-Ross Obituary (1948 - 2020)

On March 30th, 2020, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Janey Junior Hunter-Ross, age 71, of Centreville, Virginia, was called by the Lord to rest amongst her beloved angels after a valiant battle against cancer. Janey is preceded in death by parents Noah Skinner, Jr. and Betty Rager; son James Michael Hunter; sisters Barbra Skinner, Linda Taylor, Vicki Skinner and brother Tommy Skinner. Janey is survived directly by her six children including daughters Angela Hunter, Kristi (Dante) Harlan, and Sara (Andrew) Witt; sons Jason (Linda) Hunter, James Hunter and Daniel Hunter-Ross. She also leaves behind a granddaughter, four grandsons; sisters Ann Drennen, Nancy Skinner, Kay Skinner; brother Brad (Jody) Skinner, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lastly, she bids farewell, safe journeys and "Have a Great Day!" to Mr. Kitty and the many, many friends she made during her prolific world-wide travels. Born in Akron, OH, on October 27th, 1948, Janey grew up on the shores of Lake Erie in Vermillion, OH. After finishing her primary education, she moved to Columbus to attend the Ohio State University, eventually marrying and starting a family. Finding a calling as a civil servant, she worked first at Beightler Armory and then Rickenbacker Air Base for the Ohio National Guard. In 1994, heeding a transfer by the Department of Defense to Marine Corps Base Quantico, she instantly fell in love with the trees and natural beauty of Virginia. Joining United Airlines at Dulles International Airport in 1999, it ignited a passion in Janey for global travelling. Voyaging to far-off locations such as holy sites in Europe and the Middle East to tropical paradises in the South Pacific, she globetrotted many times over and always attracted an audience with her big bright smile and infectious enthusiasm. During the downtimes in adventures, Janey volunteered at the INOVA Heart and Vascular Institute with the Northern Virginia Chapter 200 of Mended Hearts. Serving as Visiting Chair and Coordinator for over a decade, she brought comfort, compassion and enlivened reassurance to many cardiac patients. She continued her million-mile aerial global trek until her retirement in 2018; whereupon she settled in to a more earthly rediscovery of Virginia's many botanical gardens, parks, memorials, monuments and festivals. Janey was interred at Pleasant Valley Memorial Park in Annandale on April 8th, 2020, in a private ceremony. A Memorial Mass is tentatively planned at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly.
