Garyson Burt Hunt Obituary (1946 - 2020)

Garyson Burt Hunt (a.k.a. Gary, Long John, Pops, Pop-Pop), 74, of Manassas, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at home surrounded by his family and friends. John was born February 5, 1946 in Nashville, TN. He was the son of the late Oretha "Fritz" Redden Hunt and preceded in death by his sister, Sonia Larue; brother, Bobby Heins; and grandson John Paul Hunt. John lived in Philadelphia, PA and Princeton, WV growing up. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War before settling down in Manassas, VA, getting married and having 3 children. He spent most of his life in the construction field. He would say he was a "jack of all trades, master of none." He was not one to ever sit still, so if he was not working you would find him tinkering with something. He loved to stay busy and would work seven days a week if he could. He also loved to organize things. He would save every bottle, bucket, or jar and clean it out, never wanting to waste something that could be used later. You would find all of the extra nuts, bolts, and screws all neatly organized and sorted out in these containers. Since he lived with each of his kids over the years, we all have these reminders of him around our homes. John did not have much or ever need much, but he was always willing to give you what he had and was willing to help anyone who was in need, never asking for anything in return. He loved to dance like James Brown when he'd had a few beers and ask you "who loves you baby." He always had witty responses for everything that many times would catch you off guard and make you laugh. He loved his family more than anything and loved spending time with his grandbabies, especially walking them all around for hours when they were learning to walk. If he did ever sit still, you would find him watching a favorite movie, listening to any kind of music, or working on his Word Find books. John leaves behind his former wife, Karen Lynn Hunt Waldroupe of Manassas, VA; oldest son Gary Hunt, Jr and wife Kimberly with children Hannah, Garrison, Nicholas, Zachary, and Jacob all of Warrenton, VA; daughter Selena Smith and husband Craig with children Hayden and Lucas all of Bristow, VA; and youngest son Emit Hunt and wife Tiffany of Culpeper, VA. He also leaves behind his beloved brother and sister in laws, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends that he considered to be family. John's family finds comfort believing God's promise through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus that they will be reunited in Heaven someday with him for all of eternity.
