Ella Marie Greschuk, 101, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023 in the\nWestminster at Lake Ridge Nursing Center. Born on March 2, 1922 to Fred\nSteinlicht and Ella (Huhn) Steinlicht, Ella grew up on the family farm in north\ncentral Illinois. After graduating high school, she moved to Bloomington, Illinois\nto work for State Farm Insurance. This is where she met her future husband,\nPaul Greschuk, an enlisted soldier from Scranton, Pennsylvania.\n\nWhen Paul received orders to a new posting in Vancouver, Washington, Ella\ntraveled alone across country to be with him. They were married there in July\n1943. During WWII, Ella followed Paul across the country as his assignments\nchanged and when the war ended, she settled in Paul’s hometown of Scranton,\nPA.\n\nHere Ella used the skills she had learned growing up on a farm during the Great\nDepression. While raising her son Daniel and daughter Rebecca, she also sewed\nher own clothes, made beautiful quilts, canned vegetables from the garden, and\nbaked amazing pies.\n\nIn the mid-1960s, Ella began her career as a seamstress in a garment factory.\nDue to exceptional skills, she soon was assigned the job of sewing the\nmarketing samples. She continued in this profession until her retirement at the\nage of 65.\n\nIn 1978, Ella and Paul realized their dream of living in a new home outside the\ncity and moved to Scott Township. When her husband passed away in August\n1995, Ella continued living in her “country” home. She kept busy with activities\nat her church and senior center and by taking care of stray cats who found their\nway to her doorstep.\n\nA bad fall in 2016 necessitated Ella’s move to Assisted Living at Westminster at\nLake Ridge in Northern Virginia. There she enjoyed family visits, working on\njigsaw puzzles, and making new friends. A big birthday celebration was held at\nWestminster on her 101st birthday and her family appreciates the wonderful\ncare the Westminster staff provided.\n\nShe is survived by her son, Daniel (Dianne) Greschuk and daughter, Rebecca\n(Victor Gittens deceased) Case. She has four grandchildren - Merideth Sellars,\nDarren Greschuk, Alex Case and Ian Case and 10 great-grandchildren.\n\nA family Celebration of Life for Ella will be held in June.
