DAVID J. DUNNE, General Manager of Ballston and Kings Park Exxon died Oct. 5 at his home in Arlington, with his children Maggie, Bobby, and grandson Xander nearby.
Dave was the son of Robert and Myra Dunne, and No. 8 of 11 kids from Fillmore Street in Arlington, VA. He went to St. Charles, played soccer and tennis for O’Connell High School, and swam at NVAC.
He dug Metro tunnels, worked for Rickman Plumbing, and was a maintenance engineer at Fillmore Garden Apts. Dave was a former president of the National Association of Power Engineers, and a licensed Steam Engineer, Class 6. He umpired for the NVFPSUA and Pony Nationals. Dave also managed and played in the Venus Rising Band, and his siblings loved his boogie-woogie piano playing.
He is survived by his daughter Margaret (Maggie), son Robert (Bobby) and new grandson Xander. In addition, he leaves behind nine siblings: Anet Dunne, Santa Rosa, CA; Tim Dunne, Colonial Beach, VA; Connie Dunne, Portland, OR; Peggy Dunne, Novato, CA; Laura Gordon, Portland, OR; Christopher Dunne, San Diego, CA; Mary Rose Dunne, The Villages, FL, Frank Dunne, Virginia Beach; and Greg Dunne, Portland, OR. He was predeceased by his brother Bob of Annapolis, MD.
He was truly the best dad and grandpa in the whole world.
There will be a Celebration of Dave's Life, Sunday, Oct. 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Gravely Point Park (First exit north of Reagan National Airport on GW Parkway) with a reception to follow at noon at Dave's house in Arlington. RSVP Mary Rose (352) 272-9555
